How Much Does Garage Floor Coating Cost?

Garage Floor Coating Cost in Wilmington, NC: Pricing Guide

If you’re thinking about upgrading your garage, one of the first questions you probably have is, “How much does a garage floor coating cost?”

The answer depends on a few factors, including the size of your garage and the condition of your concrete. Every home is different, so there isn’t a one-size-fits-all price. At Hello Garage of Wilmington, we provide free, no-obligation estimates so you’ll know exactly what your project will cost before any work begins.

If you’re researching garage floor coating costs in Wilmington, NC, here’s what you can expect.

What Affects Garage Floor Coating Pricing?

A larger garage requires more materials and installation time. Whether you have a one-car, two-car, or three-car garage, the size of the space plays a major role in pricing.

Before a new coating can be installed, the concrete needs to be properly prepared. Cracks, pitting, surface damage, and moisture issues may require additional repairs to create a long-lasting finish.

Not all floor coatings are created equal. Hello Garage installs premium polyaspartic floor coatings that are designed to resist stains, hot tire pickup, abrasions, and UV damage. These systems are built for long-term durability and a clean, professional appearance.

Many homeowners choose to upgrade their garage at the same time by adding custom cabinets, slatwall storage, shelving, or workbenches. These options are customized to fit your garage and budget.

“So what are my options?”

Least Expensive:

DIY coatings from your Big-box store

  • Almost always epoxy-based
  • Epoxies are larger molecules that do not sink into the concrete.
  • Intended for very short-term “spruce up” or to prepare a home for sale.

Still Pretty Cheap:

Professional Epoxy

  • Large molecule that sits on top of the surface.
  • Very hard, but very brittle – microscopic cracks develop easily.
  • No UV resistance – yellows and fades with time.
  • Easier to install than other options.

More Expensive

Polyurea

  • Smaller molecule, but minimal penetration into concrete surface due to “crosslay”.
  • Very flexible when new.
  • Highly susceptible to UV damage.
  • Become brittle when UV exposed.
  • Professional installation required.

Also More Expensive:

Polyaspartic

  • Small molecule with excellent surface penetration and adhesion.
  • Moderately flexible, resistant to cracking.
  • 100% UV resistant (unless blended with Polyurea – check materials data sheet for 100% Aliphatic composition).
  • Professional installation required.

Blends

Many companies cut costs by using a premium polyaspartic coating only as the top layer while applying a less expensive material underneath. Although this can lower the upfront price, the performance of the floor is still determined by the base coat.

  • Epoxy base coat with a polyaspartic top coat: The polyaspartic finish adds durability and helps protect the surface, but it does not eliminate epoxy’s tendency to lose adhesion over time. If the base coat fails, the entire coating system is affected.
  • Polyurea base coat with a polyaspartic top coat: While the polyaspartic top coat is UV stable, it does not protect the polyurea underneath from UV exposure. The base coat can still degrade over time, and the polyaspartic layer does not improve the polyurea’s bond to the concrete. Adhesion concerns remain even with the upgraded top coat.

“Can you break that down for me?”
